Detroit — The news of David Carter’s transition to the ancestors shocked me and others of his co-workers greatly. He was a good friend to me and my family over the past several years. He was dedicated to the seniors we assisted at the Hannan Center and respected by the staff. He told us about the years he spent in Ann Arbor as a classical pianist, teacher and student, and his fond memories of the collectives he lived in.
This was the last message he sent to me, while I was on break from my part-time service at Hannan Center for a couple of months. He was happy and looking forward to the future.
Hi Diane,
Hope all is well with you and Travis. I miss you! All’s well here. The office is essentially empty. I had a nice catch-up talk with Justice today. I’ll be working 30 hours weeks until I’m caught up on hours (probably in November). . . This period is good for me because with so many people out of the office, I’m getting experience with different pieces of the Hannan & AmeriCorps operation and learning new things. The REAL reason is I was perusing Voice of Detroit online and didn’t know you had a YouTube channel. I subscribed. It’s really great to see you in journalistic action, speaking truth to power!
